*To protect Mia’s identity her name has been changed and she is not pictured.
Mia* lives in Myanmar, near Southeast Asia. She lives in a home constructed with a zinc roof and covered with Nipa Palm leaves (their long, feathery leaves provide good roofing material). They eat cooked rice and various forms of pork and chicken curry. Mia loves to jump rope and play badminton. Although this lifestyle is similar to other families living nearby, Mia and her family struggle everyday inside their home.
Mia’s father died when she was 8 years old. Her father’s death was very difficult for the family. This left her mother to care for Mia and her other siblings all by herself. Her mother would work any job that was available so she could support her family. The money she was paid was only enough to provide their family with food. Mia and her siblings could not go to school. Her sisters worked various jobs when they could get them, but usually the work only lasted for a short time.
Mia was not a well-behaved child. She was disrespectful to her mother, rude to others and often stole money from her family and the community. Youth for Christ, a partner with VisionTrust in Myanmar, began helping this family when Mia’s mother had a baby. Mia began going to a VisionTrust Learning Center where she was able to go to school. They helped to provide clothes and medical treatment for Mia when she will not feeling well. Through the love of others, Mia’s behavior began to improve. She started to learn about the Bible and the way that God wanted her to live. Mia is now 14 years old and is growing up to be a polite young woman. She no longer steals; she listens to her mother; and Mia is also a big help to her family. Mia continues to learn about God, and she hopes to one day become a teacher and to provide well for her own family.

Ways to get involved:
Love your family a little more today. Think of a way you can tell your mom or dad how much you love them. Maybe you could offer to help them with chores around the house or write them a special note thanking them for the hard work they do.
Sometimes it is hard to get along your brother or sister. They are your family that God has blessed you with and God asks us to get along well with one another. Think of a way you can show your brother or sister that you love them (help them with their chores, ask to play a game together, go out of your way to be extra special nice today).
Romans 12:16-18 “Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
