Montrouis, Haiti is a beautiful beach town along the Canal de Saint-Marc, just east of the Caribbean Sea. It is a very popular place for tourists who like to come to see the pure white sandy beaches, go sailing and fish in the clear waters. An earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, and it caused many people to lose their homes and businesses. It also made it difficult to find safe food, which made many people very sick.
Elsi is an 11-year-old girl who lives in this town with her mother and four siblings. She dreams of becoming a nurse. Her main responsibilities in her home are to help with the dishes, sweep the floor and clean the house. Her mother does not have enough money to take care of all of the children. Elsi is very malnourished, which means she does not get enough healthy food for her body to grow and develop the way it should, which often makes her very sick.
VisionTrust began working in Elsi’s town this year, in a school that helps more than 100 children. It is a place where they can learn about Jesus and be loved by the teachers. The teachers work very hard to provide for the children but they need more support from churches. They are praying for a church partner that would help them to provide meals for the children more often. Right now, the school meets in a church. They have begun to build a school building but do not have enough money to finish it. A church partnership would help VisionTrust to complete the school building.
Elsi has been going to this school and sometimes gets a meal, but she is still not able to eat on a regular basis. The VisionTrust workers truly believe that God has a huge plan for this community. They will continue to pray for the children they work with and trust that a church will partner with them soon.

Way you can get involved
It is important to support our local businesses so that our own towns are strong and growing. This week shop at a local farmers market or eat at a restaurant that is owned and operated by someone in your own community.
